Charles J. Morris, founder of Numen Studio

An unusual path to this work.

Most leadership advisors came up through HR or coaching. I came through the engineering org, then moved to HR, before a deep dive into academia. This work brings me full-circle back to 'the business' to help teams be at their best with everything I've learned along the way.

I spent twenty years at Microsoft. The first decade was in engineering. I led program management teams on Microsoft Edge and Windows Phone, shipped products to hundreds of millions of users, managed teams of up to 22 people, and keynoted Microsoft's Web Summit conferences. I know what it means to build, ship products, and lead under real pressure.

The second decade was a deliberate turn. I became deeply curious about what actually makes teams work. Not the strategy or the roadmap, but the invisible dynamics of trust, candor, and accountability that separate teams that execute from teams that spin. I founded Microsoft's Mindful Growth community, which grew to thousands of members. Then I crossed from engineering into HR (a move that surprised people at the time), where I served as Director of Global Learning & Development, leading all-employee onboarding, learning, and culture programs across Microsoft's entire global workforce. I wanted to see if what I believed about human performance could be made to work at scale. It could.

Along the way, I earned a Master's degree in Mindfulness Studies from Lesley University and a PhD in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, with a focus on the psychology of transformation. My doctoral work gave me a rigorous theoretical foundation for what I'd already observed in practice: that lasting change in organizations happens at the level of behavior and identity, not just knowledge and skill.

Today, through Numen Studio, I design and facilitate engagements that connect leadership growth directly to business outcomes, drawing on TripleGoal's world-class assessment and development tools alongside my own frameworks, facilitation approach, and two decades of experience inside the organizations my clients are trying to build. And I care as much about the human experience as I do the results: the best teams don't just perform. People on them feel genuinely engaged, motivated, and connected to work that matters.
